Last week we had the pleasure of meeting 4 incredible women that head up various artisan businesses in Teotitlan del Valle, an area just east of Oaxaca City.
Of all the various artisans, only 2% of those businesses are women owned, meaning most times you buy these things you're buying from a dude.
The experience was perfectly curated and all the women we met were energetic juggernauts. Just titans. The type of people you meet who convey their strength and wisdom without speaking.
These photos are from the rug weaving visit where we learned about natural dyes, the meticulous process of weaving, and the ways in which the land and the harvest facilitate it all.
Reminders:
1. We should always be learning. There really is not more engaged state than that of enrollment in learning. I.e. Willful opting-in.
2. Representation is a gender issue too. We need to be looking beyond the transaction to understand what the implications of our purchases are, and who is benefitting from what we buy.
3. Natural dyes are cool AF.
